About Us
Renaissance Voices was born in 2000 to cater for a desire of amateur singers from the Maidenhead area to rehearse and perform the choral repertoire of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Since our inaugural performance in July 2000, we have given nearly 50 concerts, at St. Nicolas Church in Taplow and All Saints Church in Maidenhead. The choir is completely self-financing, surviving on members' subscriptions and revenue from concert performances. Despite this, RV is still sometimes accompanied by professional musicians playing period instruments, including brass, strings, recorders and harpsichord.
Choir Director
Our current choir director is Paul Leddington-Wright, formerly Organist and Director of Music at Coventry Cathedral from 1984 to 1995. Since that time, he has worked regularly with the BBC for Songs of Praise, The Big Sing and several programmes on BBC Radio. His involvement with the International Church Music Festival and Stagecoach Theatre Arts have also kept him very busy.
Paul's career began in Maidenhead, where he went to school, and we are delighted that he now returned to the area and agreed to join us for the next part of our journey.
The choir was previously led by Robert Jones between 2016 and 2023, and our original director Michael Sanderson led the choir from its founding in 2000 until 2016.
